Question 1

Q: Which is the most blessed pillar to pray near in the Rawdah?

Accepted Answer

Ustuwanah Aisha (RA) is considered the most blessed spot for voluntary prayer in the entire Masjid Nabawi according to Imam Malik. Sayyidah Aisha (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ frequently prayed here voluntarily and said if people knew how blessed this spot was, they would need to cast lots to pray there. It is marked today by a golden wreath inscription.

Question 2

Q: Are the current marble pillars the same ones from the Prophet's ﷺ time?

Accepted Answer

No — the original pillars were living palm tree trunks that supported the roof of the first simple mosque. Al Jumuah Magazine (February 2026) confirms the current marble pillars "stand on the exact locations where the original pillars, made from palm tree trunks, stood." The locations have been preserved perfectly through every reconstruction; the material has changed over centuries of rebuilding.

Question 3

Q: What is the story behind the Weeping Pillar?

Accepted Answer

Before the Minbar was built, the Prophet ﷺ delivered his sermons leaning against a living date palm trunk. When he moved to the pulpit, the trunk wept audibly — like a child or a pregnant camel — from the separation. The Prophet ﷺ descended and embraced it. He gave it a choice: to be replanted on earth or planted in Jannah. The trunk chose Jannah. The pillar al-Hannana marks this exact spot.

Question 4

Q: How many total historical pillars are inside Masjid Nabawi?

Accepted Answer

Eight pillars total carry distinct historical significance — six inside the Rawdah area and two inside the Sacred Chamber (Hujrat al-Sharifah). The six Rawdah pillars are: al-Hannana, al-Tawbah, Aisha, al-Sarir, al-Wufud, and al-Haras. All eight stand on the sites of original palm trunk pillars from the Prophet's ﷺ first mosque.
